Congratulations to our two Athletes of the Month for January: Junior AOM, Mariam Ayad, and Senior AOM, Ecko Lerat!
In one of the most pivotal moments of the Samuel Robertson Technical Tournament, Mariam Ayad demonstrated exceptional composure and leadership when her team needed it most. With the game tied at 51 in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter, the pressure was at its highest. Remaining calm and focused, Mariam stepped to the free-throw line and successfully converted the decisive shot, breaking the tie and giving our team a one-point lead with 21 seconds remaining. Her poise and execution in a critical situation shifted the momentum of the game and reflected her ability to perform under pressure. Beyond this defining moment, Mariam consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to the team by arriving prepared and focused for every game, warm-up, and practice. Her dedication, work ethic, and team-first mentality exemplify the qualities of an Athlete of the Month and make her a deserving nominee for this recognition.
Ecko has had an outstanding month as a leader and competitor for the Senior Boys basketball team. As team captain, he has consistently led by example, scoring over 20 points per game throughout the month while also taking on the primary defensive responsibility of guarding the opposing team’s best player. His impact extends beyond his own team, as he dedicates additional time to coaching the Junior Boys basketball team, who currently sit top three in the standings, demonstrating exceptional commitment and leadership. Under his leadership on the court, the senior team has gone 6–2 over their last eight league and tournament games and secured a third-place finish at the Killarney Tournament, where Ecko also earned a Player of the Game in the opening matchup. His performance, leadership, and dedication make him highly deserving of this recognition.
